Many Amateur Radio Clubs in Westmoreland County have suffered declining membership and participation in the last 5 years. Foothills ARC and Chestnut Ridge ARC have gotten down to about a hand full of members trying to keep things going. The future does not look good for either club. The members we have are getting older and no new hams are coming in.
The WEARS Group is the most active in central Westmoreland County, and is perusing 501c3 status, that the other 2 clubs don't have. Many of us already belong to the other 2 clubs. After a long talk with the 3 Westmoreland County Clubs, we decided that for the good of Amateur Radio here, we would merge Foothills ARC and Chestnut Ridge ARC into the current WEARS Group. With all our members and equipment merged, a stronger club will exist. The merger is in progress and must be completed before the 501c3.
It was a hard decision to make with the Foothills ARC tradition going back to 1959.
For the most part, not much will change except there will only be one meeting
a month instead of three.
The meetings will still be at the Westmoreland County 911 center.
The Repeaters will stay on the air with current call signs.
All equipment and Calls will be transferred to the WEARS Group.
Management will be through the officers and By-Laws of WEARS.
Current members are encouraged to join the WEARS Group. http://www.wc3ps.org/ We still plan on doing Field Day, but there will be NO Hamfest in 2012.
